I'll Be Your Mirror
Compact Mirror, 1996
Whitney Museum of American Art

Sold out

A limited edition compact mirror produced alongside the 1996 exhibition I’ll Be Your Mirror at the Whitney in New York, stamped with the exhibition’s opening date to its closing date. Mirrors are a frequent motif in Goldin’s work; she often captures her subjects applying makeup or simply gazing at their own reflection in bedroom  and bathroom mirrors.

I’ll Be Your Mirror covered the first two decades of Goldin’s career, from her early years in Boston and the underground scene of downtown New York to her success in the art world, and the highs and lows in-between which she captured with unflinching candour. Highlights included moving studies of Cookie Mueller’s illness and passing, and photographs from The Ballad of Sexual Dependency.

Condition: Very good (crack to one side of mirror)
