Challenging the dominant narratives around Black masculinity and queer intimacy, D'Angelo Lovell Williams first zine was published on the occasion of his exhibition, Papa Don’t Preach at Higher Pictures in Queens in 2020. Making public his recent HIV diagnosis with the show, the intimate and poignant body of work on view was made during a two year period in which Williams returned to his family, making work with his mother and grandmother and journeying to Sulfer, Louisiana, to make work with his father.
