PROPO by Paul McCarthy is a series of more than 120 photographs that capture an odd inventory of tattered objects, including stuffed animals, dolls, bottles, masks and uniforms which were originally used by the artist as props in a series of early performances staged between 1972-1983. Set against vibrantly coloured backgrounds, McCarthy infuses these images of objects with dark humour and subversive social critique; this series helped to secure his status as one of the most influential and groundbreaking American artists of our times.
