The cult Penny Slinger book from 1977 featuring ninety-nine of the collages made over a strange seven year journey. It all began in 1969, when Slinger and filmmaker Peter Whitehead (who this copy apparently belonged to) began filming in a derelict Stately Home in the Northamptonshire countryside. Over several weeks the project evolved into a psychodrama with Slinger, Whitehead and multiple participants but what was filmed at the time was eventually shelved. Months later, Slinger printed the black and white still photographs that were taken of the empty rooms and grounds during filming and used them as a basis for a series of collages. Inserting new images of herself and her partner / co-star Suzanka Fraey acting out different archetypes, the final works that make up An Exorcism was created. During the same time, her relationship with Whitehead ended, forming an emotional exorcism and making up the title.
