Kathy Acker & The Mekons
Pussy, King of the Pirates
Promotional Pamphlet, 1996
Quarterstick Records
£30
A two-page promotional pamphlet detailing the creation of Pussy, King of the Pirates, a collaborative album made by Kathy Acker and British post-punk band The Mekons. Created as an aural companion to Acker’s 1996 novel of the same name, the album features bawdy songs and foul-mouthed fishy tales. After hanging out at a motel pool party in San Francisco in the early nineties, The Mekons asked Acker if she wanted to “cut a record with them.” Acker was already a self-confessed groupie; Pussy, King of the Pirates was then recorded in Leeds and Chicago during the summer of 1995.
