Cookie Mueller’s Garden of Ashes was published by Hanuman in 1990, the influential book series that operated from the Chelsea Hotel between 1986 and 1992. In this autotype of the first edition, Mueller provides ten veristic stories that trace and recount her experiences as a countercultural starlet whilst paying homage to her fellow Dreamlanders. Cookie Mueller embodied the avant garde pneuma that Hanuman books are esteemed for through both her underground movie star status, appearing in several John Waters films including a major role in Pink Flamingos, 1972 and her later writings, How to Get Rid of Pimples, 1984, and Ask Dr Mueller, 1997.
