Interior/Exterior, Full/Empty by American photographer Lorna Simpson, featuring delicate black-and-white images of interiors either empty or coupled with people. Produced while at an artist residency at the Wexner Centre for the Arts at the University of Ohio, Interior/Exterior is an ambiguous exploration of gender identity and eavesdropping. The work, originally pairing film stills with recorded dialogue, is presented as images with short, elusive captions hinting at the hidden meaning of the images. Of the work, Simpson said, “You’re in a very intimate space, overhearing a conversation.”
