She Mad is a book assemblage of Martine Syms' periodic, conceptual sitcom of the same title, that follows a semi-autobiographical narrative of a young woman also named Martine, a habitual stoner and graphic designer attempting to gain notoriety for her artistic practice in Hollywood. Using various contemporary media sources, Syms deconstructs and presents themes such as the Black experience, gender performance, and public perception of such through her meticulous social commentary. Bitch Zone (2020), is one of the five featured episodes within the book that documents an empowerment program designed for teenage girls, headed by Tyra Banks. Published in conjunction with the exhibition “She Mad: Season One” at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, USA and Bergen Kunsthall, Norway.
