In the autumn of 1989, Martin Margiela’s third show took place in a desolate playground in a North African neighborhood in the outskirts of Paris. As a gesture of gratitude for lending the space, the local kids were invited to sit in the front row, where they spontaneously started to play with the models and stormed the runway. It was an event like nothing the fashion world had ever seen: the critics loathed it, the industry loved it. Margiela’s SS90 show remains to this day one of the most iconic and impactful fashion moments of all time. This brilliant black & white zine published by Dashwood, features photojournalist Jean-Claude Coutausse's images of the show.
