Postcard of Yayoi Kusama at one of her happenings in 1967, standing next to a polka-dotted horse. Kusama’s happenings throughout the 1960s were publicly held artworks, often involving polka dots and groups of people, initially conceived as a form of protest against the Vietnam War. This happening was held at Woodstock, New York – Kusama lived in the city from the late 1950s to the early 70s – and aptly titled Horse Play.
