An iconic book of photographs by Texan artist Martha Camarillo taken over a period of two years in the Philadelphia neighborhood of Fletcher Street, where typical inner-city documentary images are disrupted by the presence of the horses ridden by the young male inhabitants who refer to themselves as ‘urban riders’ and ‘black cowboys’. These photographs alter the common stereotypes surrounding equestrianism and the race and class of those who participate in it, documenting a unique community connected through the horses they ride.
