Originally published exclusively in Japan as 2 separate special issues of Japanese fashion magazine, STREET, this is the book edition that followed to combine the exact contents of volumes 1 & 2 compiled as an anthology. Maison Martin Margiela was solely responsible for the choice of images and layout, and used mostly unpublished photographs from its archives to explore and illuminate more than a decade of its collections from Spring/Summer 1989 to Spring/Summer 1999 across the two issues. Framing the Belgian house as not simply as a designer label but as a conceptual force reshaping how clothing is constructed, presented, and understood, this edition includes materials from several of the Belgian house’s landmark exhibitions including the 1999 MODE et ART at Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels, and their ‘museum within a museum’ at the Art and Fashion Biennale in Florence in 1996.
