Originally published as a special issue of Japan’s cult Big Goro magazine dedicated to American rock band The Runaways, this idol book gathers Japanese language interviews, bilingual song lyrics and photographs by legendary photographer Kishin Shinoyama. Shot at the members’ Los Angeles homes just before their 1977 performance in Tokyo, the publication combines live performance photographs with a mix of candid and posed images offstage, reproduced in the bold, high-gloss style that defined the magazine. The accompanying interviews reflect the band’s thoughts during their rise to international attention in the late 1970 as the members discuss wearing undergarments on stage, the experience of making rock music as women, and provoking teenage boys.
